Frequently Asked Questions
Are you insured?
Yes, the Blue Water Hunter is fully licensed and insured to protect our clients.
What time do the charters depart? Where do I go?
Meet us at Honokohau Marina at 7:30am Hawaii time the morning of your booked charter. See our location page for a Google map and additional details.
What can we expect to see?
We typically target the “restaurant quality” fish such as Mahi Mahi, Ono, Ahi and even a variety of Billfish.
Can we bring our own equipment?
Bringing your own equipment is not only allowed, it’s actually recommended. However, we have you completely covered if there is anything you might need.
Can we SCUBA dive on the charter?
On the west-side of Hawaii island it’s actually illegal to spearfish on scuba. So we freedive to spearfish and we offer freediving and spearfishing classes if you need or want to improve your personal best.
Can we customize our charter?
ABSOLUTELY! We love changing it up and we are known to “do all the fun things the other guys won’t.”
Do we need any special licenses to fish?
Fortunately Hawaii doesn’t require any licensing at all for spearfishing.
What is Blue Water Hunter’s cancellation policy?
Cancellations must be done no less than one week ahead of the agreed charter date otherwise all charter fees will be forfeited. Charters canceled due to weather will be refunded in full.
What if we’re vacationing on one of the other islands?
We appreciate that when planning a vacation to Hawaii, you have many destinations and locations to choose from on The Big Island, Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Molokai and Lanai. But even if you’re staying on one of the other islands, we strongly recommend taking a quick hop over to Kona to experience the spearfishing and freediving adventure of a lifetime with Blue Water Hunter Spearfishing Charters! If you’ve already booked your accommodations and filled up your itinerary, then we hope you will consider staying on the Big Island on your next visit! We will be ready for you…
